About Hurricane Warning


Hurricane Warning!, is a non-profit, 501(c)3 organization based at the Disaster Survival House in Deerfield Beach, Florida. The Disaster Survival House is an all-hazards learning and training center, focused on hurricanes. The Hurricane Warning! Education Program teaches hurricane and disaster mitigation, safety and preparedness to children, families, seniors, students and businesses.

Mission Statement - We help save lives by providing education on natural and man-made disaster mitigation, preparedness, response, and recovery, with an emphaisis on hurricanes

The Hurricane Warning! curriculum will move into a self-guided, web-based virtual tour. This will be presented in the Disaster Survival House through a network of computer kiosks with interactive touch screens that will engage visitors in a multi-media, exciting and educational experience.

Hurricane Warning! has many partners and supporters including the City of Deerfield Beach, Florida Atlantic University, Florida International University and the International Hurricane Research Center, Tropical Prediction Center (National Hurricane Center), Broward County Emergency Management, American Red Cross Broward County Chapter, Broward Sheriff’s Office, Institute for Business and Home Safety and Florida Power & Light.

In the future, Hurricane Warning! will move into a much larger all-hazards learning and training center. Training programs for emergency preparedness will expand to trade personnel including response agencies, emergency managers, and mitigation specialists. Training will be offered in mitigation, preparedness, response and recovery for many other types of natural disasters and terrorist activities, including, tornadoes, earthquakes, floods, wild fires, hail, severe storms, as well as radiological, biological, nuclear and chemical disasters.
